Video: A midwife’s tale

In this video, subtitled in English, Doh Athan profiles a midwife in Yangon’s Hlaing Tharyar township, where the junta has declared martial law and imposed a 7pm curfew.

With hospitals shuttered and movement impossible at night, more pregnant woman are turning to Ah Phwar, who is 67 and says she cannot work as much as she used to. Still, she is doing her best to meet the rising need, even at the risk of arrest – or worse.
