YANGON — The country’s leading tour operators, accommodation options and tourism innovators will be revealed at the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Awards on December 11, organisers have announced.
Hosted by the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute, the awards will be presented at a gala dinner at Chatrium Hotel in Yangon that will kick off at 5:30pm. The night will also feature a raffle and networking opportunities, and more information is available on the MRTA website.
Prizes will be awarded in six categories, for responsible tourism accommodation, responsible tourism operator, community involvement in tourism, tourism business innovation, awareness raising project and tourism product for empowerment.

Initiated by MRTI in 2017, the awards seek to raise awareness of the potential for the tourism industry to generate meaningful social, economic, and environmental benefits.
“Our ambition is to use tourism to make better places for people to live in. This will benefit the industry: great places to live are great places to visit,” said MRTI chairman Ko Nyunt.
This year they will incorporate the Product & Package Innovation Competition (PPIC), which was run from 2015 to 2017 to support innovation and inclusivity in the tourism sector.
Last year’s winners included Laguna Lodge – ECO Hotel, Exo Travel Myanmar, Kalaw Tourism Organization, Inle Heritage Hospitality Vocational Training Centre, Sampan Travel Magazine and Destination Ayeyarwady.
