More than a year after the first anti-coup militias began to form and wage armed struggle against Myanmar’s military regime, young activists continue to stage peaceful protests in the streets despite brutal repression.
Thefts and robberies, often violent, have skyrocketed in Myanmar’s commercial capital since the February 2021 coup, with residents setting up night patrols in some areas as police do little to stop the surge in crime.
