Human hair imports from India up sharply

India has exported nearly 15 tonnes of human hair to Myanmar since January, The Hindu reported last week, quoting informed sources.

The hair has been air-freighted to Yangon via Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia flights from Tiruchi International Airport in southern Tamil Nadu State, the Indian daily said on July 29.

“This is a tremendous jump in export of human hair compared to the previous year when the shipment was only 1.4 tonnes,” it quoted an unnamed airport official as saying.

The hair exports were not regular because priority was given to perishable goods, which account for 90 percent of the cargo shipped from the airport, the official said.
