The Shanni Nationalities Army has been accused of aiding the Myanmar military since the coup, but its supporters say the group is defending against persecution by the Kachin Independence Army.
Severe monsoon flooding has swamped villages and paddy fields in central Myanmar, forcing people out of their homes including those already displaced by war, an Agence France-Presse reporter and the United Nations said.
