Police have fired live rounds as well as tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets in response to large demonstrations across the country in the bloodiest day yet since the February 1 coup.
Thefts and robberies, often violent, have skyrocketed in Myanmar’s commercial capital since the February 2021 coup, with residents setting up night patrols in some areas as police do little to stop the surge in crime.
