The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party is contesting 211 seats in the November 8 election – 79 at Union level and 132 at state and regional level — and is fielding the most candidates after the Union Solidarity and Development Party and the National League for Democracy.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
