Striking truck drivers, bureaucrats and bank workers have brought international trade through Yangon’s ports to a standstill, with exports estimated to be down as much as 90 percent since February 1.
Thefts and robberies, often violent, have skyrocketed in Myanmar’s commercial capital since the February 2021 coup, with residents setting up night patrols in some areas as police do little to stop the surge in crime.
