YANGON — Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications has unveiled a partnership with LINE, a Japan-based application offering free chat and voice calls that has more than 600 million users throughout the world.
MPT told a news conference in Yangon on July 29 that users of its Swe Thahar service will be able to download and use LINE until September 30 without data charges.
The collaboration is aimed at providing the Myanmar market with one of the world’s most popular messaging applications, with LINE being number one in Japan, Thailand and some other countries, MPT said in a statement released at the event.
“Myanmar presents a great market for LINE,” said LINE Myanmar general manager Darin Hwang. “We’ve seen growth of over 390 percent after our soft launch earlier this year,” said Mr Hwang.
