Families in western Myanmar left their homes to seek shelter and higher ground on Friday ahead of a cyclone forecast to bring high winds and a storm surge to the eastern Bay of Bengal.
The Myanmar military has razed dozens of villages in the Rakhine State township to make way for Chinese development projects, displacing tens of thousands and offering few benefits for the local population.
