More than 500 Myanmar resistance fighters surrendered to the junta, the military said Thursday, with Agence France-Presse journalists witnessing a disarming ceremony that one resistance faction suggested was a propaganda stunt.
Myanmar's military was responsible for more than 700 civilian deaths over the six-month period ahead of the regime’s election last year, the United Nations said Monday.
