The Ta’ang National Liberation Army is under siege by the Myanmar junta in northern Shan State, while also enduring a Chinese blockade and sporadic unrest in its multi-ethnic territory, but the powerful group says it won’t give ground without a fight.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
