Civilians are caught in the middle of the conflict between ethnic armed groups in Shan State, with some missing for more than a year amid a surge in detentions and forced recruitment.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
