With an entire academic year already lost to the pandemic, the junta says schools will reopen on June 1, but teachers, students and their parents are refusing to attend or enroll in schools administered by generals and policed by soldiers.
In May the NUG ordered schools in areas under its control to close until security measures could be implemented to protect against junta airstrikes, but many villages lack the funds to make the changes, leaving children without access to education.
