A fight for territory between Shan and Ta’ang armed groups in northern Shan State is displacing thousands, in a conflict in which the Tatmadaw has been accused of taking sides.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
