An advocacy group has proposed four options for reforming Myanmar’s tangle of criminal defamation clauses, which are being used ever more frequently under the National League for Democracy government.
Former prisoners in Myanmar say many inmates suffer from beriberi – a serious disease caused by vitamin B1 deficiency that can be fatal if left untreated – because they are deprived of adequate nutrition by prison authorities.
