An office run by volunteers in Lashio is supporting about 100 citizenship applications a month from members of a Chinese-speaking minority listed among the country’s 135 officially-recognised ethnic groups.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
