Landmines have blighted thousands of innocent civilians' lives in Myanmar, which remains one of the few countries yet to sign a 1997 treaty banning their use.
The Myanmar military has razed dozens of villages in the Rakhine State township to make way for Chinese development projects, displacing tens of thousands and offering few benefits for the local population.
