In Wai Hai and other villages in a cluster of seats in central Shan State where voting was cancelled in 2015, voters were delighted to cast a ballot in the April 1 by-election.
On May 31, a massive warehouse explosion in Kaung Tap village, in northern Shan State’s Namkham Township, damaged hundreds of houses and killed dozens of residents, leaving survivors to deal with the aftermath and leading some to wonder whether it is even worth rebuilding.
