The Myanmar Police Force seems to have been devoting more time and effort to hunting down journalists than suppressing crime and maintaining law and order.
Thefts and robberies, often violent, have skyrocketed in Myanmar’s commercial capital since the February 2021 coup, with residents setting up night patrols in some areas as police do little to stop the surge in crime.
