State schools are set to reopen on June 1 for the first time in a year but tens of thousands of teachers remain on strike, and many students are expected to boycott to show their opposition to the military coup.
In May the NUG ordered schools in areas under its control to close until security measures could be implemented to protect against junta airstrikes, but many villages lack the funds to make the changes, leaving children without access to education.
