However, farmers and civil society groups do not accept the date, as it was chosen by the 1962 Revolutionary Council coup. They are still demanding that December 22, the day of the peasant uprising, be declared Peasants&#8217; Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, we look at the contested issue of land rights for farmers following the coup in Myanmar. A lot is at stake, particularly for farmers who have been hoping for positive legal reforms.
